Studio Reserve Lowden S23 SN-13510 handmade in Ireland (Glenvale Industrial Estate Workshops, Newtownards, North Ireland circa 2002).
The story, as George Lowden tells it, is that he designed the S series at the request of Nick Webb (Acoustic Alchemy) for a smaller version of George's renown O series. This is one of the earlier S23's build by Lowden in Ireland. It is spectacular in tone and beauty. The neck is a slightly wider than an O series; Nick Webb normally plays classical and the neck is not quite as wide as that but comfortable and familiar to steel string of classical players.
We purchased new this for the Studio and have kept it under lock and key in a humidity controlled undisclosed location. Accordingly, the guitar is perfect, aged, loved, nurtured and terribly painful to part with. An instrument of this beauty and sonority deserves to be a musicians adored main instrument instead of a collectors item.
"The S23 is the first small bodied steel string I designed. I adjusted the soundboxgeometry and voicing to accentuate bass - I knew in a concert sized body the treble would be good anyway. The S23 with its medium hard AAA walnut back and sides and cedar top is warm, very loud and well balanced." George Lowden
